The Pratt & Whitney PT6 is one of the most popular turboprop engines in the world with a design that permits easy repair and complete overhauls. This has been made apparent by the large number of PT6 repair services available.
A good repair service would be sufficient to ensure a longer engine life and would also lower cost of operation as long as the engine is not irreversibly damaged. Such extreme damage is generally noticed in the hot section caused by a poor nozzle spray from the PT6 fuel nozzles leading to burning and abrasion of the section. This would demand an overhaul with recertification of the hot sections components and replacement or cleaning as the case may be of the PT6 fuel nozzles.
Also the highly reliable PT6 power section damaged only through unrelated events like lightning strikes for example would require a preventive reaction involving a complete overhaul instead of cursory repairs.
So, if the engine is not operated immoderately and subjected to stresses that it can withstand, PT6 repair services are a speedy and inexpensive solution to maintenance instead of overhauls that might be expensive. The only drawback being that damages to the PT6 power section and nozzles might require the latter.
